This November 2010 paper talks to the issues of our need to address accelerating demand for faster multimedia content that is increasingly video-centric in nature. The focus of the paper is on how the CTO can plan towards leveraging existing HFC infrastructure, in current geographic footprint, to maintain cost advantage with incremental access network investment whilst retaining the integrity of the core head-end platforms.

To achieve this objective the paper discusses new potential evolutionary approaches to network architecture.
