The C-COR Broadband portfolio is based on two PON technologies, BPON and GPON.
BPON
Standard ITU-T G.983 - Broadband Passive Optical Network (BPON) is currently the technology of choice and offers high upstream bandwidth, high upstream bandwidth allocation and WDM support for video overlay. It has a management interface, called OMCI, between the OLT and ONU/ONT, enabling mixed vendor networks. Recommended downstream line rates are 155.52, 622.08 and 1244.16Mbits/s and upstream line rates of 155.52 and 622.08Mbits/s.
GPON
Standard ITU-T G.984 - Gigabit Passive Optical Network is an evolution of the BPON standard. It supports higher rates than BPON, has enhanced security features, and a choice of layer 2 protocols GEM or Ethernet. Recommended downstream line rates are 1.2 and 2.4 Gbits/s and upstream line rates of 155 and 622 Mbits/s and 1.2 and 2.4 Gbits/s.
- C-COR Broadband solutions provide an upgrade path from BPON to GPON.
- C-COR Broadband provides impartial advise that balances the competing demands of optical fibre vendors and passive vendors – our independence is our strength.
- C-COR Broadband understands the need to sometimes defer infrastructure investment until required by installing rich cascade designs that are easy to up-grade.
- C-COR is able to provide solutions that seamlessly integrate these networks with networks delivering high optical fibre cable utilisation using point-to-point or point-to-multipoint PON architecture.
