High-density, fully redundant Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) / intelligent edge routers allow cable operators to introduce differentiated data, voice, and multi-media services for both business and residential subscribers. • The I-CMTS architecture provides independent downstream and upstream scalability and full DOCSIS 3.0 functionality within a single chassis. This architecture delivers the same high-availability and ease-of-operation expected by cable operators.

Full DOCSIS 3.0-based functionality via the Modular CMTS (M-CMTS) model:

• The M-CMTS architecture uses the DOCSIS MAC processing and Gigabit Ethernet ports of the C4 CMTS and enables downstream growth through external M-CMTS-compliant edge QAMs. The ARRIS D5™ DMTS external Edge QAM delivers full compliance with the original NGNA vision, including this optional disaggregated M-CMTS architecture.
